Spaghetti Pizza Casserole is a comforting baked dish that combines your favorite pizza flavors with tender spaghetti noodles. This casserole features a cheesy noodle base mixed with Italian seasoning and eggs, layered with a savory ground beef marinara sauce, and topped with melted mozzarella and pepperoni slices for a delicious, crowd-pleasing meal.

Ingredients

Pasta Mixture

  • 8 ounces spaghetti noodles, broken into 2-inch pieces, cooked al dente and cooled
  • 2 ½ cups (282.5 g) mozzarella cheese, shredded, divided
  • ¼ cup (61 g) whole milk
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic salt
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt

Sauce Mixture

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 jar (24 ounces) marinara sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Topping

  • 3 ounces sliced pepperoni (about 35 slices, or enough to cover the top)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare baking dish: Preheat the oven to 425°F and spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix pasta ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the cooked and cooled spaghetti noodles, ½ cup of mozzarella cheese, whole milk, beaten egg, Italian seasoning, garlic salt, and kosher salt. Stir until well mixed.
  3. Bake pasta mixture: Spread the noodle and cheese mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish. Bake at 425°F for 15 minutes.
  4. Cook ground beef: While the pasta bakes, heat a medium skillet over medium heat. Brown the ground beef until no pink remains, about 8 minutes. Drain excess grease thoroughly.
  5. Prepare sauce: To the cooked ground beef in the skillet, add marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, kosher salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine and heat through.
  6. Adjust oven temperature: After the initial 15 minutes of baking, remove the pasta mixture from the oven and reduce the oven temperature to 350°F.
  7. Assemble casserole: Evenly spread the prepared meat sauce over the baked noodle mixture. Sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella cheese, then top with sliced pepperoni to cover the surface.
  8. Bake casserole to finish: Return the casserole to the oven and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, hot, and bubbly.
  9. Rest and serve: Let the casserole rest for a few minutes after baking to set before serving. Enjoy your spaghetti pizza casserole!

Notes

  • For best results, cook spaghetti noodles al dente to prevent them from becoming mushy during baking.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for ground beef to reduce fat content.
  • Use low-moisture mozzarella cheese for a better melt and less watery casserole.
  • Allow the casserole to rest after baking so it holds together better when slicing.
  • Leftovers store well covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven for best texture.
