A hearty and flavorful Slow Cooker Sloppy Joes recipe that combines ground beef with a tangy tomato sauce mixture, slow-cooked to perfection for tender, juicy sandwiches. Perfect for a comforting family meal with minimal hands-on time.

Ingredients

Meat and Sauce

  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 16 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon prepared mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

To Serve

  • 6 hamburger buns
  • 6 slices yellow cheese

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil: Warm 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat to prepare for browning the beef.
  2. Brown the beef: Add the ground beef to the pan, season with salt and pepper to taste, and cook for 6-8 minutes, breaking it up with a wooden spoon until the beef is fully browned and no longer pink.
  3. Add to the slow cooker: Transfer the browned beef into the slow cooker. Add tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, prepared mustard, smoked paprika, and stir everything together until well combined.
  4. Cook: Cover and cook the mixture on HIGH for 3 hours or LOW for 6 hours to allow the flavors to meld and the mixture to thicken.
  5. Serve: Once cooked, spoon the sloppy joe meat mixture onto the hamburger buns. Top each with a slice of yellow cheese, then serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • For a leaner option, substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken.
  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar according to taste.
  • To add some heat, consider mixing in a dash of hot sauce or chili powder.
  • Serve with pickles or coleslaw for extra texture and flavor.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
