These Patriotic Pretzel Rods are a festive and fun treat perfect for celebrating holidays like the Fourth of July. Crunchy pretzel rods are dipped in vibrant red, white, and blue candy melts and decorated with stripes or sprinkles to create eye-catching, delicious snacks that kids and adults will love.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 bag pretzel rods
  • 1 bag white candy melts
  • 1 bag red candy melts
  • 1 bag blue candy melts
  • Patriotic sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt Candy Melts: Melt the candy melts in separate microwave-safe containers, heating one color at a time in 20-30 second intervals. Stir well between each heating until smooth and fully melted. Alternatively, melt the candy melts using a double boiler over simmering water.
  2. Dip Pretzel Rods: Pour the melted candy melts into tall, narrow glasses. Dip each pretzel rod about three-quarters of the way into the melted candy, shaking off any excess. Lay the dipped pretzels on a parchment-lined baking sheet or wire rack. For American Flag-style pretzels, dip the rod in white candy melts first; after it sets, dip just the tip into blue candy melts.
  3. Prepare for Decoration: Transfer the remaining melted candy melts into piping bags or decorative tools. If the candy hardens or cools, briefly warm it in the microwave for 5-10 seconds to soften.
  4. Decorate Pretzels: Drizzle stripes of contrasting candy melts over the pretzel rods in desired patterns. For flag-themed rods, create red and white stripes with a blue tip.
  5. Let Candy Set: Allow the candy coatings to fully harden before serving. Arrange the patriotic pretzel rods on a platter or stand them upright in jars or cups for display.

Notes

  • Use tall glasses for easy dipping of pretzel rods.
  • Make sure the candy melts are not overheated as they can seize or burn.
  • If candy melts thicken while working, remelt briefly to restore consistency.
  • Patriotic sprinkles add extra flair but are optional.
  • Store finished pretzels in a cool, dry place to prevent melting or stickiness.
