Party Shrimp is a flavorful and easy-to-make appetizer featuring succulent shrimp marinated in a blend of olive oil, brown sugar, lemon juice, garlic, and aromatic herbs. Broiled to perfection, these shrimp turn pink and tender with a subtle smoky char ideal for any gathering or festive occasion.

Ingredients

Marinade

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1–1/2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1–1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Main Ingredient

  • 1 pound uncooked shrimp (26–30 per pound), peeled and deveined

Instructions

  1. Prepare Marinade and Marinate Shrimp: In a bowl or shallow dish, combine the olive oil, brown sugar, lemon juice, sliced garlic, paprika, Italian seasoning, dried basil, and pepper. Add the peeled and deveined shrimp to the marinade and toss well to coat all shrimp evenly. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours to let the flavors infuse.
  2. Broil the Shrimp: After marinating, drain the shrimp thoroughly to discard the excess marinade. Arrange the shrimp on an ungreased baking sheet in a single layer. Place the baking sheet about 4 inches from the broiler heat source. Broil the shrimp for 3-4 minutes on each side until they turn pink and have a slight char, indicating they are fully cooked.

Notes

  • Do not overcook the shrimp under the broiler as they become tough and rubbery quickly.
  • Ensure shrimp are peeled and deveined for the best texture and taste.
  • Marinating for 2 hours enhances the flavor but can be reduced to 30 minutes if short on time.
  • Serve warm immediately after broiling for the best experience.
  • Use fresh lemon juice for brighter flavor.
