Fun and festive Monsters Rice Krispie Treats are a delightful twist on the classic marshmallow cereal snack. These colorful, bite-sized treats feature gooey marshmallow-coated rice cereal shaped into monster balls and decorated with playful candy eyes, perfect for parties or Halloween celebrations.

Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 4 Tablespoons salted butter
  • 10 ounces mini marshmallows
  • 56 cups Rice Krispies cereal (about 1/2 box)

Decorations

  • Food coloring (various colors, as desired)
  • Wilton candy eyes (large size)

Instructions

  1. Line: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside. This will be used to place your shaped treats as they cool and set.
  2. Melt Butter and Marshmallows: In a large saucepan over medium-low heat, melt 4 tablespoons of salted butter. Add 10 ounces of mini marshmallows, stirring constantly until the marshmallows are almost fully melted and the mixture is smooth. If you want to make multiple colors, divide the melted marshmallow mixture into separate bowls or prepare additional batches.
  3. Add Food Coloring: Add a few drops of your chosen food coloring into each bowl of marshmallow mixture. Stir well until the color is fully incorporated. This step lets you have various colored monster treats.
  4. Mix in Cereal: Gradually stir in 5 to 6 cups of Rice Krispies cereal to the colored marshmallow mixture. Mix until the cereal is completely coated with the marshmallow.
  5. Shape into Balls: Using buttered hands to prevent sticking, scoop and shape the mixture into 1 1/2-inch balls, approximately 0.6 ounces each. Press one Wilton candy eye firmly into the center of each ball to create the monster’s eye.
  6. Cool and Set: Place the decorated balls on the prepared parchment-lined baking sheet. Allow them to cool and set at room temperature for about 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Butter your hands well when shaping the treats to avoid sticking.
  • You can customize the color and number of the candy eyes to create different monster styles.
  • Store the treats in an airtight container at room temperature to keep them fresh for up to 3 days.
  • For multiple colors, divide the marshmallow mixture before adding food coloring.
  • If you prefer larger or smaller treats, adjust the size accordingly but keep the shaping manageable for even cooking and setting.
