Ingredients

Rolls and Cheese

  • 1 pack Hawaiian rolls (12-count)
  • 810 cheddar cheese slices or preferred cheese

Butter Mixture

  • 4 tbsp melted butter
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • Pinch of salt and pepper

Optional

  • 4 slices turkey bacon, beef bacon, or chicken bacon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F to prepare for baking the sandwiches evenly.
  2. Slice Rolls: Slice the entire sheet of Hawaiian rolls horizontally without separating them into individual pieces to keep the sandwich intact during assembly.
  3. Add Cheese: Lay cheese slices evenly on the bottom half of the rolls to ensure every bite is cheesy and flavorful.
  4. Add Bacon (Optional): If using, layer turkey, beef, or chicken bacon slices on top of the cheese for an additional savory element.
  5. Top the Rolls: Place the top half of the Hawaiian rolls back onto the bottom half, enclosing the cheese and bacon inside.
  6. Prepare Butter Mixture: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter with garlic powder, onion powder, dried parsley, salt, and pepper to create a flavorful brushing mixture.
  7. Brush the Rolls: Generously brush the butter mixture over the tops of the rolls to add flavor and help achieve a golden crust.
  8. Bake Covered: Cover the assembled rolls tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 12 minutes to melt the cheese and warm through.
  9. Bake Uncovered: Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 5–7 minutes until the tops are golden and slightly crispy.
  10. Slice and Serve: After removing from the oven, slice the sheet into individual mini sandwiches and serve warm for the best flavor and melty texture.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, omit the bacon.
  • You can substitute cheddar with any cheese that melts well, such as mozzarella or Swiss.
  • To make these ahead, assemble the rolls, cover with foil, and refrigerate before baking.
  • Reheat leftovers in the oven or toaster oven to maintain crispness.
  • Adjust garlic and onion powder to taste for more or less intensity.
