This refreshing Key Lime Pie Trifle features layers of zesty lime cream and buttery graham cracker crumbs, whipped to light perfection and served chilled. It’s a delightful, no-bake dessert perfect for warm weather or any occasion that calls for a tangy, creamy treat.

Ingredients

Crust

  • 1 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 4 tablespoons melted unsalted butter

Lime Cream Filling

  • 8 oz full-fat cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • ½ cup freshly squeezed key lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon key lime zest
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream, chilled

Garnish

  • Extra graham cracker crumbs for topping
  • Additional lime zest for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust: Mix the graham cracker crumbs with melted unsalted butter until fully combined. Press this mixture evenly into the bottom of a trifle dish to form a firm base layer.
  2. Whip the cream: In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy whipping cream until stiff peaks form, indicating it is firm and ready to be folded into the cream cheese mixture.
  3. Create the lime mixture: In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth and creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, freshly squeezed key lime juice, key lime zest, and vanilla extract, continuing to beat until the mixture is well combined and silky.
  4. Incorporate whipped cream: Gently fold the whipped cream into the lime cream cheese mixture in batches, being careful to maintain the airy texture without deflating the whipped cream.
  5. Assemble the trifle: Spread half of the lime cream mixture evenly over the graham cracker crust layer. Sprinkle with additional graham cracker crumbs. Repeat with the remaining lime cream mixture and another sprinkle of crumbs on top. Finish by garnishing with extra lime zest for a fresh, zesty touch.
  6. Chill and serve: Cover the trifle and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (120 minutes) to allow the flavors to meld and the trifle to set properly before serving.

Notes

  • Use full-fat cream cheese and heavy cream for the best creamy texture and flavor.
  • Freshly squeezed key lime juice and zest give the most authentic tangy flavor, but regular lime can be substituted in a pinch.
  • Make sure the mixing bowl for whipping cream is well chilled to achieve stiff peaks faster.
  • Chilling the assembled trifle is important to let it firm up and enhance the melding of flavors.
  • This dessert is best enjoyed within 2 days for optimal freshness.
