Ingredients

Pizza Base

  • 1 pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Toppings

  • 8 oz hot sausage (Italian or your choice), cooked and crumbled
  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce or pizza sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey

Optional Seasonings and Garnishes

  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for extra spice)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional, for extra flavor)
  • Fresh arugula or spinach (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it preheats to ensure it is hot and ready for baking.
  2. Prepare the Dough: Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface to your desired thickness, then transfer it carefully to a baking sheet or preheated pizza stone for baking.
  3. Pre-Bake the Dough: Brush the surface of the dough with olive oil and bake it in the oven for about 5 minutes until it begins to firm up and slightly golden, but not fully cooked. This step helps achieve a crisp crust.
  4. Add Sauce and Cheese: Remove pre-baked dough from the oven and spread a thin, even layer of tomato or pizza sauce across the surface. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce layer for a melty, gooey texture.
  5. Add Sausage and Feta: Distribute the cooked and crumbled hot sausage evenly over the cheese, then sprinkle the crumbled feta cheese on top. Add red pepper flakes and Italian seasoning if using, for extra flavor.
  6. Bake: Return the assembled pizza to the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheeses are bubbly and slightly browned.
  7. Add Honey: Remove the pizza from the oven and let it rest for a minute. Drizzle the honey evenly over the hot pizza to balance the spicy and savory toppings with sweetness.
  8. Garnish and Serve: Top the pizza with fresh arugula or spinach if desired. Slice the pizza and serve immediately while hot and flavorful.

Notes

  • For a crispier crust, pre-bake the pizza dough a few extra minutes before adding toppings and/or lightly butter the edges before baking.
  • Drizzle honey sparingly at first and adjust to taste to find the perfect sweet and spicy balance.
  • Use a pizza stone if possible to achieve a crisper bottom crust.
