This homemade hot honey is a delightful blend of sweet and spicy flavors, made with just three simple ingredients. Perfect for drizzling over pizzas, roasted vegetables, or mixing into salad dressings, this hot honey offers a mild heat that can be easily adjusted to suit your taste.

Ingredients

Hot Honey Ingredients

  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Combine Honey and Red Pepper Flakes: In a small saucepan, stir together the honey and red pepper flakes.
  2. Heat the Mixture: Place the saucepan over medium-low heat and cook for 2 minutes, or until the honey is gently bubbling around the edges. Stir occasionally to ensure the honey has a thinner consistency than at room temperature.
  3. Infuse the Flavor: Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the mixture infuse for 20 minutes, allowing the spicy flavor to develop. Taste to check if you desire a spicier taste, and consider infusing longer if needed.
  4. Add Vinegar: Stir in the apple cider vinegar to add a subtle tanginess that balances the heat and sweetness.
  5. Strain the Honey: Place a fine mesh strainer over a medium bowl and pass the honey through it to remove the red pepper flakes.
  6. Store the Hot Honey: Transfer the strained honey into an airtight container or jar. Allow it to cool completely, then cover and store at room temperature. Hot honey keeps well for several months.

Notes

  • If you prefer a spicier hot honey, stir in hot sauce to taste after infusing, starting with 1/2 teaspoon and adding more as desired.
  • If using a hot sauce that requires refrigeration, store the hot honey in the refrigerator as well.
  • This hot honey has a mild, balanced heat by default, perfect for a variety of dishes.
