Ingredients

Shrimp and Vegetables

  • 12 large shrimp, tails off, deveined
  • 1.5 cup broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 cup onion, sliced
  • 2 tsp minced garlic

Sauce

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp cornstarch

Cooking

  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp oil (vegetable or canola oil recommended)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce: In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, honey, ground ginger, red pepper flakes, and minced garlic. Stir well to combine, then add the cornstarch last. Whisk until all lumps are dissolved and set the sauce aside.
  2. Cook the vegetables: Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced red bell peppers and onions and cook for approximately 3-4 minutes until they begin to soften.
  3. Add broccoli: Add the broccoli florets to the wok and continue cooking for another 4 minutes, stirring occasionally until the broccoli is tender-crisp.
  4. Melt butter and add shrimp: Stir in 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter and let it melt. Once melted, add the shrimp to the wok and cook for about 2 minutes on each side, until the shrimp turn pink and opaque.
  5. Combine with sauce: Pour the prepared sauce over the shrimp and vegetables. Cook the mixture, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens and coats everything evenly, about 2 minutes.
  6. Serve: Remove from heat and serve immediately over steamed rice. Enjoy your flavorful honey garlic shrimp stir-fry!

Notes

  • Use medium-high heat to ensure vegetables stay crisp and shrimp cook quickly.
  • You can substitute shrimp with chicken or tofu for variation.
  • If sauce is too thick, add a splash of water to adjust consistency.
  • Serve with steamed jasmine or basmati rice for best results.
  • Adjust red pepper flakes to control spiciness according to taste.
