Ingredients

Ice Cream Base Ingredients

  • 1½ cups heavy cream
  • 1½ cups whole milk
  • ⅔ cup cane sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ⅛ teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

  1. Warm the Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, cane sugar, vanilla extract, and sea salt. Heat over medium-low heat, whisking frequently for about 5 minutes until the sugar dissolves completely and the mixture is warmed through.
  2. Chill the Mixture: Pour the warm ice cream base into a heatproof bowl. Cover it tightly and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight to ensure it is thoroughly chilled.
  3. Whisk the Chilled Base: Once chilled, remove the mixture from the fridge and whisk it well to recombine any settled ingredients and ensure smooth consistency before churning.
  4. Churn the Ice Cream: Pour the mixture into your prepared ice cream maker bowl, pre-frozen for at least 12 hours. Churn the ice cream according to the manufacturer’s instructions, typically for 20 to 30 minutes until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.
  5. Freeze to Firm Up: For firmer ice cream, transfer it into an airtight container and freeze for an additional 2 to 4 hours before serving.
  6. Storage: Store any leftover ice cream in an airtight container in the freezer for up to one month. If it becomes too hard, allow it to sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften before scooping.

Notes

  • Makes approximately 1 quart of ice cream.
  • Freeze the ice cream maker bowl for at least 12 hours before use for best results.
  • You can add your favorite mix-ins or toppings during the last few minutes of churning.
