This Homemade Lemonade Recipe offers a refreshing, perfectly balanced citrus drink that’s easy to make with just a few simple ingredients. Sweetened with a homemade simple syrup and brightened with fresh lemon juice, it’s an ideal thirst-quencher for any warm day.

Ingredients

For the Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water

For the Lemonade

  • 1 cup fresh-squeezed lemon juice (seeds removed, pulp may remain)
  • 5 cups cold water

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Simple Syrup: Combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of granulated sugar in a small saucepan. Place over medium-low heat and stir continuously until the sugar has completely dissolved. Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the syrup to cool for about 10 minutes.
  2. Mix the Lemonade: Pour 1 cup of fresh-squeezed lemon juice into a large pitcher. Add the cooled simple syrup to the lemon juice and stir well to combine.
  3. Add Water and Chill: Add the remaining 5 cups of cold water to the pitcher and mix thoroughly. You may pour the lemonade over ice immediately for serving, or cover and refrigerate it for several hours to chill and deepen flavors before serving.

Notes

  • For a more tart lemonade, adjust the lemon juice quantity to taste.
  • Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best flavor and natural brightness.
  • To make this lemonade less sweet or more concentrated, modify the sugar or water ratios accordingly.
  • If you prefer a pulpless lemonade, strain the lemon juice before mixing.
  • Serve over ice and garnish with lemon slices or fresh mint for a decorative touch.
