This Garlic Parmesan Rice recipe is a flavorful and creamy side dish featuring perfectly cooked long-grain rice toasted with garlic, simmered in chicken broth, and finished with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley. Ready in about 30 minutes, it’s a delicious and easy addition to any meal.

Ingredients

Rice and Broth

  • 1 cup long-grain rice (about 200 grams)
  • 2 cups chicken broth (about 500 ml)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)

Flavorings

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Gather all ingredients including rice, garlic, Parmesan cheese, butter, chicken broth, parsley, salt, and black pepper to ensure smooth cooking.
  2. Rinse the Rice: Rinse the long-grain rice under cold running water to remove excess starch, which helps prevent the rice from being overly sticky.
  3. Sauté Garlic: Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant and lightly golden, taking care not to burn it.
  4. Toast the Rice: Add the rinsed rice to the saucepan and toast for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently until the grains are slightly translucent and coated with butter and garlic flavor.
  5. Cook the Rice: Pour in the chicken broth, season with salt and black pepper, and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover with a lid, and simmer for 15-18 minutes until the rice is fully cooked and liquid is absorbed.
  6. Rest and Fluff: Remove the saucepan from heat and let the rice sit covered for 5 minutes. This resting period allows the rice to steam and become fluffy. Then, fluff the rice gently with a fork.
  7. Add Cheese and Parsley: Stir in the freshly grated Parmesan cheese and chopped fresh parsley into the fluffy rice to add rich flavor and freshness.
  8. Serve: Transfer the garlic Parmesan rice to a serving dish. Optionally, garnish with additional Parmesan cheese and parsley before serving for extra flavor and presentation.

Notes

  • Rinsing the rice is important to prevent it from becoming sticky.
  • Use freshly grated Parmesan cheese for the best texture and flavor.
  • Adjust salt and pepper to taste depending on the sodium content of your chicken broth.
  • For a vegetarian version, substitute chicken broth with vegetable broth.
  • Leftover rice can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
