Ingredients

Base

  • 16 Snack Sized Rice Krispie Treats

Coating

  • 12 oz dark green candy melts

Decorations

  • 24 candy eyes
  • 16 mini pretzel sticks
  • 1/2 cup dark brown or black candy melts (or chocolate chips)
  • Chocolate jimmies (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Rice Krispie Treats: Unwrap your snack-sized Rice Krispie Treats or prepare homemade Rice Krispie Treats and slice them into snack-sized pieces.
  2. Melt the Green Candy Melts: Melt the 12 oz of dark green candy melts following the package directions, being careful to melt slowly (avoid high power in the microwave) to prevent white dots on the candy coating.
  3. Dip and Set: Dip the top of each Rice Krispie Treat into the melted green candy melts, then place them onto parchment paper to set.
  4. Add Candy Eyes: While the coating is still wet, press two candy eyes onto each treat to create Frankenstein’s face.
  5. Attach Pretzel Bolts: Allow the green coating to set completely. Then, break mini pretzel sticks into pieces and stick one piece on each side near the bottom of the treat to resemble bolts.
  6. Melt Brown Candy Melts or Chocolate: Melt the 1/2 cup of dark brown or black candy melts or chocolate chips as per package directions, usually by microwaving at 50% power for 1 minute, then additional 30-second intervals at 50% power until smooth.
  7. Prepare Chocolate Decorating Bag: Spoon the melted chocolate into a ziplock bag, seal it, and snip a small hole in one corner for piping.
  8. Decorate Frankenstein: Use the piped chocolate to draw hair at the top of each treat and mouths below the eyes. Optionally, sprinkle chocolate jimmies on the hair before the chocolate fully sets.
  9. Final Set: Let all the chocolate decorations set fully until hardened before serving or storing.

Notes

  • For a smoother candy melt finish, temper the candy melts gently to avoid streaks or white spots.
  • You can make your own homemade Rice Krispie Treats if snack-sized ones are unavailable.
  • To store, keep treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days to maintain freshness and crispness.
  • Substitute pretzel sticks with any small candy sticks for bolts if preferred.
  • Chocolate jimmies are optional but add a fun texture and look to Frankenstein’s hair.
