Ingredients

Cinnamon Roll Base

  • 2 tubes refrigerated cinnamon rolls (8 cinnamon rolls each – 351 grams or 12 oz)
  • ¼ cup salted butter (melted)

Casserole Mixture

  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup pure maple syrup
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Topping

  • Reserved frosting from cinnamon rolls package

Instructions

  1. Prepare baking dish: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray. Pour the melted butter into the dish or place a stick of butter in the oven-safe dish to melt while preheating.
  2. Prepare cinnamon rolls: Remove the cinnamon rolls from their packaging, reserving the included frosting for later use.
  3. Cut rolls: Cut each cinnamon roll into approximately ¾ inch pieces and evenly distribute them in the prepared baking dish.
  4. Mix wet ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the milk, pure maple syrup, eggs, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until the eggs are fully incorporated and the mixture is smooth.
  5. Combine and soak: Pour the milk and egg mixture evenly over the cinnamon roll pieces in the baking dish, ensuring all pieces are coated.
  6. Bake casserole: Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the casserole is puffed up and a light golden brown develops on top.
  7. Cool and serve: Allow the casserole to cool for 10 to 15 minutes to set. Then drizzle the reserved frosting generously over the top before serving.

Notes

  • Use full-fat milk for a richer texture, or substitute with a milk alternative if desired.
  • For an extra crunch, sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts on top before baking.
  • For a dairy-free option, use vegan cinnamon rolls and plant-based butter and milk.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 2 days and gently reheated in the microwave.
  • This recipe can be doubled for a larger crowd and baked in two pans or a larger dish.
