Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk

Apple Cinnamon Mixture

  • 1 large apple (peeled and chopped)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg

Topping

  • 1 tablespoon granulated white sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan thoroughly to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon until well combined. Set this mixture aside.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar: Using a stand mixer with the paddle attachment or a hand mixer, beat the room temperature butter and granulated sugar together on medium speed until the mixture becomes pale and fluffy, approximately 4 minutes.
  4. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in eggs one at a time, ensuring full incorporation after each addition. Then mix in the vanilla extract until evenly combined.
  5. Combine Flour and Milk: With the mixer on low speed, alternately add the flour mixture and milk to the wet ingredients in three additions: about one-third of the flour, half the milk, another third of the flour, the remaining milk, and finally the last third of the flour. Beat just until combined each time to avoid overmixing.
  6. Prepare Apple Mixture: In a separate bowl, mix the chopped peeled apple with brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of nutmeg. This mixture adds sweetness and spice to the bread.
  7. Layer Batter and Apple Mixture: Spread half of the batter evenly into the prepared loaf pan. Spread half of the apple mixture over the batter. Follow with the remaining batter and top with the last half of the apple mixture. Use a knife to gently swirl the apple mixture into the batter for a marbled effect.
  8. Add Cinnamon Sugar Topping: Combine 1 tablespoon granulated sugar with 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon and sprinkle evenly over the top of the loaf for a sweet, spiced crust.
  9. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 55 minutes. To check doneness, insert a toothpick into the center of the loaf; it should come out clean or with a few moist crumbs attached.
  10. Cool and Serve: Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 15 minutes. Then transfer the bread to a wire rack and let it cool completely before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Make sure the eggs and butter are at room temperature for better mixing and a smoother batter.
  • Do not overmix the batter to avoid a dense and tough bread; mix just until ingredients are combined.
  • Use a sharp knife to swirl the apple mixture gently to create an even marbling without blending it completely.
  • Let the bread cool completely before slicing to ensure clean slices and better texture.
  • This bread can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerated for up to 5 days.
  • For a dairy-free variation, substitute butter with a plant-based margarine and use almond or oat milk instead of regular milk.
