Indulge in the crispy, flavorful goodness of Pretzel Chicken with a decadent Mustard-Cheddar Sauce. This ultimate recipe combines tender chicken breasts coated in a crunchy pretzel crust, served with a creamy, cheesy sauce that complements each bite perfectly.

Ingredients

For the Pretzel Chicken:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 cups coarsely crushed pretzels
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Mustard-Cheddar Sauce:

  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 cup mustard-cheddar sauce (recipe below)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare Chicken: Season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. Set Up Breading Station:
    • In one bowl, place the flour.
    • In another bowl, beat the eggs and mix in the Dijon mustard.
    • In a third bowl, add the crushed pretzels.
  4. Bread Chicken:
    • Dip each chicken breast into the flour, covering it completely.
    • Next, dip it into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off.
    • Finally, coat the chicken in the crushed pretzels, pressing gently to adhere.
  5. Bake Chicken: Place the coated chicken breasts on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C) and the crust is golden brown.
  6. Prepare Mustard-Cheddar Sauce: While the chicken is baking, in a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the milk, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir until heated through.
  7. Add Cheese: Gradually add the shredded cheddar cheese and continue stirring until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat.
  8. Serve: Once the chicken is fully cooked, remove it from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, consider adding a sprinkle of pretzel crumbs on top before serving.
  • This dish pairs well with a side of roasted vegetables or a fresh salad.
