This classic Rice Krispie Treats recipe combines crispy rice cereal with melted marshmallows and butter for a sweet, chewy snack that’s easy to make and perfect for any occasion. With just a few simple ingredients and minimal prep, these treats come together quickly and set into a delightful, gooey dessert everyone will love.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 6 Tablespoons salted butter
  • 16 ounce bag mini marshmallows (divided)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan: Line a 9-inch square baking dish with parchment paper and set aside to prevent sticking and make removal easier.
  2. Melt Butter and Marshmallows: In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add all but 1 cup of the mini marshmallows. Reduce the heat to low and stir continuously until the marshmallows are completely melted and smooth.
  3. Add Flavor and Cereal: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the pure vanilla extract for enhanced flavor. Then, add the Rice Krispies cereal along with the remaining 1 cup of mini marshmallows. Gently fold everything together until the cereal is evenly coated.
  4. Transfer to Pan: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Use your fingertips to press the mixture down gently, just enough to spread it out evenly. Avoid pressing too hard to keep the treats light and chewy.
  5. Set and Serve: Allow the mixture to set at room temperature for about 1 hour until firm. Once set, cut into squares and enjoy your homemade Rice Krispie Treats!

Notes

  • For chewier treats, press the mixture gently; over-packing can make them hard.
  • You can substitute salted butter with unsalted butter if preferred.
  • Adding the remaining marshmallows after mixing in the cereal creates little pockets of marshmallow softness throughout the treats.
  • Store treats in an airtight container to keep them fresh for up to 3 days.
  • Feel free to add extras like chocolate chips or sprinkles for a fun twist.
