Butterfinger Puppy Chow is a sweet, crunchy snack mix made with crispy Rice Chex cereal coated in a rich chocolate-peanut butter mixture, crushed Butterfinger candy bars, and dusted with powdered sugar. This addictive treat is perfect for parties, movie nights, or anytime you crave a sweet, crunchy bite.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 7 cups Rice Chex Cereal (or store brand version)
  • 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter
  • ¼ cup salted butter
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 18 fun size Butterfinger candy bars (15 crushed, 3 roughly chopped for garnish)
  • 1 ¼ cup powdered sugar (sifted)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cereal: Add the Rice Chex cereal to an extra large bowl to make sure there’s plenty of room for mixing the chocolate coating later.
  2. Melt Chocolate Mixture: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi sweet chocolate chips, creamy peanut butter, and salted butter. Microwave on high for 1 minute and then stir thoroughly until the mixture is completely melted and smooth.
  3. Add Vanilla: Stir in the pure vanilla extract until well combined to enhance the flavor of the chocolate and peanut butter mixture.
  4. Coat Cereal: Drizzle the melted chocolate and peanut butter mixture evenly over the cereal. Gently stir to coat all the cereal pieces without breaking them.
  5. Mix in Crushed Butterfinger: Stir in the 15 crushed Butterfinger candy bars, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the coated cereal mix.
  6. Add Powdered Sugar: You can sprinkle the sifted powdered sugar directly over the coated cereal in the bowl and stir gently, or transfer the cereal mixture into a large 2-gallon ziplock bag, add the powdered sugar, seal, and shake well. The ziplock method helps contain the sugar and reduces cleanup.
  7. Dry and Garnish: Spread the powdered sugar-coated cereal out on a baking sheet to let it dry and prevent clumping. Just before serving, sprinkle the 3 roughly chopped fun size Butterfinger bars on top for garnish and extra texture.

Notes

  • Use a large bowl to allow easy mixing without crushing the cereal.
  • Microwave times may vary; melt the chocolate mixture gently to avoid burning.
  • Sifting powdered sugar prevents clumps and ensures even coating.
  • Using a ziplock bag for coating with powdered sugar makes cleanup easier.
  • This snack is best served fresh for maximum crunchiness but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
