Perfectly seared on the stovetop and then baked to golden perfection in the oven, this dish combines sweet and savory flavors for a comforting and easy weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 56 boneless chicken thighs (bone-in can be used; adjust cooking time accordingly)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Ground black pepper, to taste
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (divided)

Sauce

  • 5 cloves garlic, finely chopped or minced
  • 5 tablespoons honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried basil

Garnish

  • Parsley, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Chicken: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Rinse the chicken thighs and pat them dry thoroughly with paper towels. Season both sides generously with salt and ground black pepper to your taste.
  2. Sear the Chicken: In an oven-safe skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium-high heat. Add the chicken thighs and sear each side for 2 to 3 minutes until nicely browned. Once seared, remove the chicken from the skillet and cover it with foil or a plate while you prepare the sauce.
  3. Make the Honey Garlic Sauce: In the same skillet, melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the finely minced garlic and sauté, stirring constantly, until fragrant, about 1 minute. Remove the skillet from heat and stir in honey, dried oregano, thyme, and basil until the sauce is well combined.
  4. Coat Chicken with Sauce: Return the seared chicken thighs to the skillet, spoon the honey garlic sauce over them, and ensure both sides are well coated with the sauce.
  5. Bake the Chicken: Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, flipping the chicken once halfway through the baking time. The chicken is done when internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C), and the juices run clear.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Remove the chicken from the oven, garnish with finely chopped parsley. Serve immediately with your choice of sides such as loaded mashed potatoes and Caesar salad for a complete meal.

Notes

  • If using bone-in chicken thighs, increase baking time by 5-10 minutes to ensure thorough cooking.
  • Make sure to use an oven-safe skillet to transition easily from stovetop to oven.
  • The instant-read thermometer is recommended for checking doneness to avoid under or overcooking.
  • For a spicier variation, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce.
  • Leftover chicken can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
