This Amish Sunday Savior Casserole is a comforting and hearty dish perfect for family dinners. Featuring ground beef, tender egg noodles, creamy cheese sauces, and fresh vegetables, it combines rich flavors and textures in a baked casserole that’s both satisfying and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 cup diced carrots
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

Dairy and Liquids

  • 2 cups cooked egg noodles
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp butter

Seasonings and Herbs

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the casserole.
  2. Brown Beef: In a skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef thoroughly until no longer pink, then drain excess fat to avoid greasiness.
  3. Cook Vegetables: Add diced onion and carrots to the skillet with the cooked beef, sautéing for about 5 minutes until the vegetables soften. Then add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute to release its aroma.
  4. Season Meat Mixture: Stir in Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and paprika to season the beef and vegetable mixture evenly.
  5. Create Sauce: Add butter, beef broth, heavy cream, and softened cream cheese to the skillet. Stir continuously until the mixture becomes smooth and thickened, forming a creamy sauce.
  6. Combine with Noodles and Vegetables: Toss the cooked egg noodles, frozen peas, and half of the shredded cheddar cheese into the creamy beef mixture, ensuring everything is well coated.
  7. Assemble Casserole: Transfer the combined mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Evenly sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese on top for a golden crust.
  8. Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes until the casserole is bubbly and the cheese on top has melted and turned golden brown.
  9. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and sprinkle fresh chopped parsley over the casserole for a fresh, herby finish. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Drain the ground beef well after browning to prevent a greasy casserole.
  • You can substitute cream cheese with sour cream for a slight tang.
  • Ensure egg noodles are cooked al dente to maintain texture after baking.
  • For added flavor, try adding a splash of white wine when cooking vegetables.
  • This casserole can be made ahead and refrigerated; bake it fresh just before serving.
