Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh blackberries
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 °F (175 °C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine blackberries, sugar, and lemon juice; stir gently.
  3. Pour the fruit mixture into a greased 8×8‑inch baking dish.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  5. Stir in milk and melted butter until just combined to form the batter.
  6. Spoon the batter evenly over the blackberry mixture—you’ll see some berries peek through.
  7. Bake for about 40–45 minutes, until the topping is golden and a toothpick comes out clean from the center.
  8. Let it cool a bit before serving.
