These Tuna Melt Patties offer a delightful twist on the traditional tuna melt sandwich, featuring a crispy exterior and a gooey, flavorful interior. Made with simple ingredients like canned tuna, breadcrumbs, and cheddar cheese, these patties are quick to prepare, cost-effective, and incredibly satisfying. Enjoy them on their own, sandwiched between two slices of toasted bread, or paired with a fresh salad for a scrumptious meal in less than 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients:

  • 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna, drained
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (or Swiss)
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for cooking)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tuna Mixture: In a large bowl, combine drained tuna, breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, egg, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  2. Add Cheese & Shape Patties: Stir in shredded cheese and green onions. Form the mixture into 4-5 patties.
  3. Cook the Patties: Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat. Cook each patty for 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Serve & Enjoy: Serve on toasted bread, English muffins, or alongside a fresh salad. For an extra cheesy finish, top with cheese and place under the broiler for a minute.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, use panko breadcrumbs.
  • If the patties are too wet, add more breadcrumbs. If too dry, add a teaspoon of mayonnaise.
  • Experiment with cheeses like Swiss, mozzarella, or Pepper Jack for different flavor profiles.
