  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, plus additional to taste

Other

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Toss the shrimp with seafood seasoning to coat evenly. Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook shrimp 2-3 minutes per side until curled and opaque. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  2. Heat remaining oil and cook meat. Add remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to the skillet. Add ground hamburger meat and ground beef sausage. Cook, breaking up with a spoon, until partially browned.
  3. Sauté vegetables and seasonings. Add chopped onions, bell peppers, and minced garlic. Cook until vegetables are softened. Stir in oregano, thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper until fragrant.
  4. Add flour and broth. Sprinkle flour over meat mixture and stir. Gradually pour in chicken broth, stirring constantly. Simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  5. Incorporate rice. Stir in cooked rice and simmer for 5 minutes.
  6. Add shrimp. Return shrimp to the skillet and heat through.
  7. Serve. Spoon hot shrimp dirty rice onto plates and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For enhanced flavor, use freshly cooked rice or spread cooked rice on a tray to cool before adding to the skillet to prevent clumping.
