Delightfully crispy and sweet, these Air Fryer Churro Bites are a fun twist on the traditional Mexican treat. Made with a simple dough that’s cooked to perfection in an air fryer, then tossed in a cinnamon-sugar mixture, these bite-sized churros are perfect for a quick dessert or snack. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, they’re easy to make and satisfy your sweet tooth with less oil than traditional frying methods.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 1 large egg

Coating

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon powder

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup water, 1/3 cup unsalted butter, salt, and 2 tablespoons sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat until the butter has fully melted.
  2. Add flour: Remove the pan from heat and quickly stir in the 1 cup plain flour until the mixture forms a smooth dough ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan. Allow the dough to cool for about 5 minutes.
  3. Incorporate egg and vanilla: Transfer the dough to a mixing bowl. Beat in the large egg and 1 teaspoon vanilla essence until the dough is smooth and well combined.
  4. Shape churro bites: Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star nozzle. Pipe small bite-sized pieces (around 1 inch each) onto a parchment-lined tray or directly into the air fryer basket, spacing them slightly apart.
  5. Air fry the churro bites: Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Air fry the bites in batches for about 8-10 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  6. Prepare cinnamon sugar coating: While the churro bites cook, mix 1 cup white sugar with 1 tablespoon cinnamon powder in a shallow bowl.
  7. Coat the churro bites: Remove the cooked churro bites from the air fryer and immediately toss them in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat evenly.
  8. Serve warm: Serve the churro bites hot for the best crispy and tender texture. Enjoy as a sweet snack or dessert.

Notes

  • For easier shaping, allow the dough to cool slightly before piping.
  • The air fryer temperature may vary, so keep an eye on the bites to prevent burning.
  • Churro bites are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for 1-2 days.
  • You can substitute vanilla essence with vanilla extract if preferred.
