Indulge in these Homemade Maple Donut Bars, sweet, soft, and glazed to perfection. These delightful treats will satisfy your cravings for a classic donut with a hint of maple sweetness.

Ingredients

For the Donut Bars:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Maple Glaze:

  • 1½ cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon milk (more if needed)
  • ½ teaspoon maple extract (optional for stronger flavor)

Instructions

  1. Make the Donut Dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix. Cover and let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
  2. Shape the Donuts: Lightly flour your surface and roll the dough out to about ½-inch thickness. Cut into rectangles using a knife or dough cutter. Place on a parchment-lined tray and chill in the fridge for 10–15 minutes.
  3. Fry the Donuts: Heat 2–3 inches of vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry the donuts in batches for about 1–2 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  4. Prepare the Maple Glaze: In a bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, milk, and maple extract until smooth. Dip the warm donuts into the glaze, letting excess drip off. Place on a wire rack to set.

Notes

  • For a richer glaze, you can add a touch of maple extract to enhance the flavor.
  • Ensure the oil stays at a consistent temperature while frying to achieve perfectly cooked donuts.
