Ingredients

For the Sauce:

  • 3 Tbsp salted butter
  • 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder

For the Casserole:

  • 24 oz fresh broccoli pieces
  • 1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup fried onions

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sauce: In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until smooth. Slowly whisk in the milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Assemble the Casserole: In a slow cooker, layer the broccoli pieces. Pour the sauce over the broccoli. Sprinkle the cheddar cheese on top.
  3. Cook: Cover and cook on low for 4 hours or until the broccoli is tender.
  4. Finish: Before serving, sprinkle the fried onions over the top of the casserole.
