Moist vanilla bundt cake with red, white, and blue swirls throughout.

Ingredients

For the Vanilla Batter:

  • 1 cup butter, at room temperature
  • 2 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 4 large egg whites, at room temperature
  • 1 cup buttermilk, at room temperature
  • 3 cups cake flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

For the Red Swirl:

  • Red food coloring

For the Blue Swirl:

  • Blue food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease and flour a 12-cup Bundt pan. Set aside.
  2. Mix butter and sugar: In a mixing bowl, beat together butter and sugar until well-combined.
  3. Add eggs and egg whites: Add eggs and egg whites one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in vanilla and buttermilk: Mix in vanilla until combined, then add buttermilk and mix well.
  5. Add dry ingredients: Add cake flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in on low just until incorporated.
  6. Create colored batters: Divide batter into three portions. Color one with red food coloring, another with blue, and leave one plain.
  7. Layer the batter: Alternate dropping plain, red, and blue batters into the prepared pan.
  8. Bake: Bake for 50-70 minutes at 350 F, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool and serve: Cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Regular or low-fat buttermilk is okay to use.
  • It’s best to use cake flour, but you can make your own substitute.
  • Adjust food coloring amounts based on desired color intensity.
