These Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes combine the flavors of a classic Philly Cheesesteak with the ease and sauciness of Sloppy Joes. A delicious and comforting dish perfect for weeknight dinners or game day!

Ingredients

Filling:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 green pepper, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup reduced sodium beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 ½ teaspoons beef bouillon
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 3/4 cup sharp cheddar cheese, freshly grated

Buns:

  • 6 brioche hamburger buns
  • Softened butter or mayo for brushing (optional)
  • 6 slices provolone cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare buns: Preheat oven to 400°F. Split buns and place cut side up on a baking tray. Lightly brush with butter or mayo and bake for 5 minutes.
  2. Cook filling: Brown beef, onions, and bell peppers in olive oil. Add garlic, then add beef broth mixture, ketchup, Worcestershire, Dijon, and seasonings. Simmer until saucy.
  3. Finish filling: Stir in cheddar cheese. Season to taste. Divide mixture on bottom buns and top with provolone.
  4. Bake: Bake sandwiches at 400°F for 5-10 minutes until cheese is melted. Top with remaining bun halves and serve.
