These Maple Cookies with Maple Icing are a delightful treat that perfectly captures the warm, comforting flavors of maple syrup. The soft, chewy cookies are topped with a rich brown butter icing, creating a decadent combination that is sure to please any sweet tooth.

Ingredients

For the Cookies:

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup pure maple syrup (Grade A for best flavor)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Brown Butter Icing:

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 12 tbsp milk
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon (optional)

Garnish:

  • Flaky sea salt or chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cookie Dough: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. In another bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar. Add the maple syrup, egg, and vanilla extract. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a dough forms.
  2. Bake the Cookies: Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a baking sheet and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. Allow the cookies to cool completely.
  3. Make the Brown Butter Icing: In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat until it turns golden brown and smells nutty. Remove from heat and whisk in the powdered sugar, maple syrup, milk, and cinnamon. Spread the icing on top of the cooled cookies.
  4. Garnish: Sprinkle the frosted cookies with flaky sea salt or chopped pecans for an extra touch of flavor.

Notes

  • For a more pronounced maple flavor, use Grade A maple syrup in both the cookie dough and icing.
  • Adjust the amount of milk in the icing to achieve your desired consistency.
