This Mac and Cheese Lasagna combines creamy macaroni and cheese with hearty ground beef and rich spaghetti sauce in a layered casserole. Baked to perfection with mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses, it’s a comforting twist on classic lasagna that’s quick to prepare and perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

Macaroni and Cheese

  • 1 (24 oz) box macaroni shells & cheese with prepared cheese sauce

Meat Sauce

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 white onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 to 2 cups spaghetti sauce

Cheese Topping

  • 1 packed cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare Mac and Cheese: Follow the package directions to cook the macaroni shells and mix the cheese sauce fully. Set aside once done.
  2. Cook Meat Mixture: While boiling water for the macaroni, brown the ground beef along with diced white onion and minced garlic in a skillet over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the beef is fully cooked. Drain excess fat and set the mixture aside.
  3. Assemble Layers: Lightly spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. Spread half of the prepared mac and cheese evenly over the bottom of the dish. Layer half of the cooked meat mixture on top, then spread half of the spaghetti sauce over the meat. Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses on top.
  4. Repeat Layering: Repeat the same layers with the remaining mac and cheese, meat mixture, spaghetti sauce, and cheeses, finishing with the cheeses on top.
  5. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the assembled casserole for 20 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Rest and Serve: Let the lasagna rest for 2 to 3 minutes to set before scooping and serving.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef to reduce fat content.
  • For a creamier texture, add a splash of milk to the prepared macaroni and cheese.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
  • Optional: Add Italian seasoning or fresh herbs to the meat sauce for extra flavor.
  • Ensure to drain the cooked beef well to avoid excess grease in the casserole.
