This homemade Italian herbs and cheese bread is filled with the rich flavors of aromatic herbs and gooey cheese. Perfectly baked with a crispy crust, it’s a delightful addition to any meal or a tasty snack on its own.

Ingredients

    Dry Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons dried Italian herbs (such as basil, oregano, thyme, and rosemary)
  • Cheese:

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Additional:

  • Extra flour for dusting

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Add flour, salt, dried herbs, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
  2. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if too sticky.
  3. Proof the Dough: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
  4. Shape the Bread: Punch down the dough, shape into a loaf or place in a greased pan. Let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat the Oven: Preheat to 450°F (230°C) and place a pan of water in the oven to create steam.
  6. Bake the Bread: Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and hollow when tapped. Internal temperature should reach 200-210°F.
  7. Cool and Serve: Cool on a wire rack before slicing. Enjoy warm or at room temperature!

Notes
