Crispy, cheesy, and perfectly golden, these homemade breadsticks are a delicious snack or side. They are easy to make and will have everyone coming back for more.

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 2.25 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

For Topping:

  • 1.5 cups shredded mozzarella
  • 0.25 cup cheddar or Parmesan (optional)
  • 3 tbsp melted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Flaky salt or red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Create Dough: Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Stir until a shaggy dough forms, then knead until smooth (5–7 minutes by hand or mixer).
  3. Rise: Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm spot for 45–60 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare Topping: Roll out the dough into a rectangle on a floured surface. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. Add Toppings: Brush the dough with melted butter, sprinkle garlic, seasoning, and cheeses over the top.
  6. Bake: Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 12–15 minutes or until golden and bubbly.
  7. Serve: Brush with extra garlic butter, slice into sticks, and serve warm!

Notes

  • For an extra burst of flavor, serve with marinara sauce for dipping.
