Indulge in this caramelized onion pasta, where sweet, golden onions meld with a creamy béchamel sauce and a crispy breadcrumb topping.

Ingredients

BREADCRUMBS

  • ½ Baguette
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper
  • 2 teaspoon Oregano

PASTA INGREDIENTS

  • 300 g Cavatappi Macaroni
  • 5 Onions thinly sliced
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 3 cups Heavy Cream
  • 1 cup Parmesan Cheese grated
  • 1 tablespoon Flour + 3 tablespoon water for béchamel
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • Fresh Parsley chopped
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika powder
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Thinly slice the onions: into long strips.
  2. Sauté the onions: Heat a large skillet or pan over medium heat, add olive oil, and sauté the onions for 30–40 minutes until caramelized.
  3. Prepare the béchamel sauce: Melt butter, whisk in flour, gradually add heavy cream, and let the sauce thicken. Stir in caramelized onions, season, and simmer.
  4. Cook the pasta: Boil salted water, cook pasta until just shy of al dente.
  5. Combine and bake: Mix pasta with sauce, transfer to a baking dish, top with remaining onions and breadcrumbs. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10–15 minutes until golden and crisp.
  6. Serve: Immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Please use an oven-safe skillet, or transfer to a baking dish!
