A comforting and savory dish combining tender beef, caramelized onions, hearty noodles, and a creamy sauce, inspired by French onion soup.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef stew meat or ground beef
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 ½ cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp flour (optional, for thickening)
  • 8 oz egg noodles (or any pasta of choice)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions are caramelized and golden brown. Add the garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  2. Add the beef stew meat or ground beef to the pan. Cook until browned and cooked through, breaking up the ground beef if using. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Stir in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and any additional seasonings you like. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for about 5 minutes to combine the flavors.
  4. If you’d like a thicker sauce, sprinkle the flour over the mixture and stir it in. Let it cook for 2-3 minutes, and it should thicken up.
  5. Meanwhile, cook the egg noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  6. Once the beef mixture has simmered and thickened, add the heavy cream to the pan. Stir to combine and let it simmer for an additional 3-4 minutes until the sauce is rich and creamy.
  7. Add the cooked noodles to the beef mixture and toss everything together until the noodles are well coated with the sauce.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with freshly chopped parsley.

Notes

  • This recipe yields about 4 servings.
  • The total time to prepare is approximately 40-45 minutes.
  • For a lighter option, use low-fat cream or milk instead of heavy cream.
  • Try adding mushrooms for extra flavor or swapping the beef for chicken.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated with a splash of broth or cream.
