These Cheese Stuffed Meatballs are a delicious blend of ground beef and Italian sausage, filled with gooey mozzarella, and baked to perfection. A savory and satisfying dish perfect for any occasion!

Ingredients

Meatballs:

  • 1 pound lean ground beef (93%-7% fat)
  • ½ pound ground mild Italian sausage
  • 1 large egg
  • ⅓ cup breadcrumbs
  • ⅓ cup grated parmesan cheese (plus additional 12 tablespoons for garnish)
  • ⅓ cup yellow onion very finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons half & half
  • 2 teaspoons grated garlic
  • 1½ teaspoons dried Italian seasoning blend
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Filling:

  • 15 cubes (¾-inch) mozzarella cheese (from an 8-ounce block)
  • 24 ounce jar of tomato & basil marinara sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat to 400°F and line a baking sheet.
  2. Mix meatball ingredients: Combine beef, sausage, egg, breadcrumbs, parmesan, onion, half & half, garlic, seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  3. Form meatballs: Flatten meat, add mozzarella cube, encase cheese, and form meatballs.
  4. Bake: Bake for 20-25 mins until browned.
  5. Prepare sauce: Warm marinara in a skillet.
  6. Serve: Plate meatballs, top with sauce, and garnish with parmesan and parsley.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the meatball mixture to keep them tender.
  • Check meatballs for doneness after 20 minutes of baking.
