Ingredients
For the Steaks
1 lb ground beef
1/3 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup milk
1 egg
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon olive oil, for frying
For the Mushroom Gravy
1 tablespoon butter
1 small onion, finely chopped
8 oz mushrooms, sliced
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Prepare the Patties – In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until combined. Form the mixture into 4 oval-shaped patties.
Cook the Patties – Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 4 to 5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
Make the Gravy – In the same skillet, melt the butter. Add the chopped onions and sliced mushrooms. Sauté until soft and browned, about 6 to 7 minutes. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer until thickened, about 4 to 5 minutes.
Combine and Finish – Return the patties to the skillet and spoon the gravy over them. Simmer on low for another 5 minutes to let the flavors meld. Serve hot over mashed potatoes or rice.
