A comforting apple crumble dessert with a caramelized apple filling and a buttery, crumbly topping—quick to prepare and always a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 67 cups (about lb) Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, sliced or diced
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar (or half brown sugar)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp corn starch or all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease an 8- or 9-inch baking dish.
  2. Make the crumble topping: Whisk together flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Stir in the melted butter until the mixture is crumbly.
  3. Prepare the apple filling: In a large bowl, toss the apples with granulated sugar, lemon juice, corn starch (or flour), cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
  4. Spread the apple mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  5. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apple layer.
  6. Bake for 35–45 minutes, or until the topping is golden and the filling is bubbling.
  7. Let cool for about 15 minutes before serving to allow the filling to set.

Notes

  • Add vanilla extract for aromatic depth.
  • Mix in chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans for crunch.
  • Drizzle caramel sauce on top before serving for extra indulgence.
  • Leave apple peels on for added texture and color.
  • Use a variety of apples for balanced sweetness and tartness.
