This delightful Amish Apple Fritter Bread is a moist and flavorful treat that combines the comforting flavors of apples, cinnamon, and vanilla in a simple yet delicious loaf.

Ingredients

For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:

  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

For the Bread:

  • 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 2/3 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk

For the Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk or cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×5 inch loaf pan by greasing or lining it with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Apples: In a bowl, combine light brown sugar and cinnamon. Coat diced apples with the mixture and set aside.
  3. Cream the Sugar and Butter: Cream together white sugar and softened butter until light and fluffy.
  4. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract.
  5. Combine Dry Ingredients: Sift together flour and baking powder in a separate bowl.
  6. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually mix the flour mixture into the creamed mixture, alternating with milk.
  7. Layer the Batter: Pour half of the batter into the pan, add half of the apples, then repeat layers.
  8. Bake: Bake for 50-60 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool and Glaze: Cool the bread in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Drizzle with glaze once cooled.
